What the best time to visit?
You can visit Venezuela throughout the year, as it lies close to the equator. This means the days are usually sunny and warm with an average daytime temperature of around 25ºC (77ºF) all year round. Venezuela does, broadly speaking, have a dry season (Nov-May) and wet season (the rest of the year). However there is a lot of regional variation in how long these seasons last and how much rain falls. Our Eco-Lodge is located on the coast where the seasons are far less pronounced, so we can virtually guarantee you sunshine any time of year!

What is the best flight to get?
It is relatively easy to pick up a cheap flight to Venezuela with one of the major airlines from your travel agent. This is because Venezuela serves as the major gateway for flights to South America from Europe and the United States. For example it is possible to fly direct from 8 European cities. Do shop around as prices vary considerably! Upon arrival if you require we can organize your pickup. Many people prefer this option as it gives them peace of mind knowing they will be able to relax on the beach when they first arrive. Similarly, our Eco-Lodge is ideally located if you are flying home from Caracas and need a base to take it easy and top up your tan before your flight.

What languages are spoken?
Spanish is the national language, if you’re intending to travel around you do really need to speak basic Spanish as English is not widely spoken except by the educated younger generation. If you need to 'brush up' your Spanish staying at the Lodge is ideal, as we have 2 language teachers working with us who can help you along. Click here to find out more on our language courses.

In Venezuela it is possible to exchange all major currencies - cash and as traveller’s cheques - in 'Casas de Combios' (exchange houses) or at certain banks. In the major cities ATM machines are also widely available. Otherwise, cash advances using your credit card are a popular way to access your funds. The Lodge accepts all major credit and debit cards and changes all major currencies and traveller’s cheques.

What Medical precautions should I take?
Venezuela is a modern society with a extensive health system with numerous well stocked pharmacies. You do not need any specific vaccinations to travel to Venezuela. Malaria is only an issue if you intend to travel deep into the forest regions of the Amazon, Gran Sabana or Orinoco delta. You should however take out good travel insurance policy before leaving, as private health care is expensive.

Is my safety at risk?
Venezuela is a relatively safe country. The vast majority of Venezuelans have a honest and of a friendly nature. Like elsewhere in the world in the major cities you need to use your common sense and be vigilant. However robbery of tourists is a very rare occurrence. Around the lodge and in most rural areas in Venezuela it is very safe and visitors are usually surprised and the hospitality and friendliness shown by locals.

What should I bring with me?
Venezuela is a tropical country so sandals, shorts and sunglasses are the norm. A phrase book, travel guide and a good sense of humour are also recommended! By day the sun is strong so you should bring high factor sun cream and after sun lotion. At night you need insect repellant and light clothing. If you are planning on visiting the Andes, bring sweaters and warmer clothing as it can get very cold at high altitude.
